Nakagawa Aquatic Park
This is an aquarium with freshwater fish, which is rare in Japan, and 20,000 fish from 300 different species are on display inside. Sweetfish go downstream to lay their eggs, and the practice of taking advantage of this trait (which is called “ayuyana”) and making slatted wood bamboo mats called “otesu” to entice the fish is a traditional fishing method with a history of over 300 years of use.
