If you’re going to Hakone, stop by Oyama

Kanagawa > Isehara

Mt. Oyama (height: 1,252 meters) in Kanagawa Prefecture’s Isehara City has been considered a sacred mountain since ancient times. The main building of Oyama-Afuri Jinja is located at the summit, and the lower shrine and Oyamadera Temple are located part of the way up. The views from both the summit and the lower shrine are fantastic, and the site was given a 2-star rating by Michelin Green Guide Japan. When the weather is good, you can look out across Sagami Bay. In the fall, the stone steps in front of the Oyamadera Temple’s main building are shrouded in bright red autumn leaves.
