From late September to early October, the greens of summer start to slowly shift to Autumn colors, and the gradations of green and red as the colors change are gorgeous. The vivid autumn leaves color the Miharashi no Oka hill bright red also makes for a superb view. The Japanese name for kochia is “houkigusa,” and in the past its stems were dried and used to make brooms.
