The autumn leaves of Mt. Tanigawadake, one of the top 100 mountains in Japan, are even listed in the Michelin Guide. Rising up on the border of Gunma Prefecture and Niigata Prefecture, this rocky mountain is 1,977 meters high, and is famous for its beautiful views of autumn leaves. Ride a ropeway from the foot of the mountain and you can enjoy about 10 minutes of panoramic views of autumn over the 2,400 meter course, which rises to 600 meters.

From Tokyo Station, Jomokogen Station is an approximately 1 hour and 20 minute ride on the JR Joetsu Shinkansen, and from Jomokogen Station, the Tanigawadake Ropeway is about a 50-minute bus ride.
