Matsumoto Castle has stood proudly in front of the Northern Japan Alps for over 400 years. One of five National Treasure castles in Japan, it is also the oldest original castle still standing in Japan today. Its exquisite black exterior has earned it the nickname ‘Crow Castle,’ and it contrasts beautifully with the snowy Alps and rosy cherry blossom trees. The interior of the castle contains a museum of artifacts from the Warring States period, and the top floor of the castle has magnificent views of Matsumoto City and the surrounding mountains.
