It is an old castle town, and today the townscape underscores its long history. Examples of traditional old townhouses, once occupied by merchant and samurai families, still remain. Murakami is famous for salmon, and has developed a distinct culture around this salmon fishing. It is said that Murakami is home to more than 100 salmon recipes. Senami Onsen hot spring is a must-visit attraction, and its coastal setting provides spectacular views of the setting sun.
