Utsunomiya is located in the heart of Tochigi Prefecture, approx. 50 minutes from Tokyo by Shinkansen and the ideal base for trips to Nikko, Ashikaga, and other destinations in Tochigi. It is famous for its Gyoza (fried dumplings) as a local specialty, and visitors from overseas are particularly fond of the Oya History Museum, which occupies a cavernous space some 30 meters underground. Every October, Utsunomiya hosts the Japan Cup Cycle Road Race, Asia’s premier road race.
