Senjojiki Cirque

Nagano > Komagane

The steep slopes of the Senjojiki Cirque were carved by glaciers some 20,000 years ago. The meadows at its foot are popular in the summer for their subalpine and alpine wildflowers, as well as in autumn for their fall colors. From the end of September through October, the cirque becomes a colorful tapestry of greens and yellows interspersed among the red leaves of the mountain ash trees. This natural paradise is easily accessible via the Komagatake Ropeway, the first mountain ropeway in Japan. It rises 950 meters over its 2,334 meter length in just 8 minutes.
